Resources for Pastors
As a pastor, you have a unique opportunity to support individuals who may silently struggle with the aftermath of abortion. Below are common questions and resources to help guide your pastoral care.
- Within your church, there are women, men, grandparents, and family members who have been affected by abortion.
- Statistics show that approximately 1 in 4 women in America has had at least one abortion—each of these children had a father and extended family members who also experienced this loss.
Your message should reflect God’s love, mercy, and forgiveness. Consider using phrases like:
- “If you’ve had an abortion, come and see me. I will help you.”
- “God’s love for you never ends.”
- “Abortion does not separate you from God. He offers healing, forgiveness, and mercy to mothers, fathers, and families.”
- When praying for an end to abortion, also pray for the mothers, fathers, and grandparents who have lost children.
- This acknowledges that abortion has many victims, not just the unborn, and fosters an atmosphere of grace and healing.
- Consider participating in a Rachel’s Vineyard retreat—it will provide deeper insight into the trauma of abortion and better equip you to support those in need.
- Understand that confession and counseling alone may not be enough for healing. Many who experience abortion require more than talk therapy to process their grief.
